According to a recent study by Gallup-Healthways, there are 5 crucial aspects of well-being. As a CEO, it’s important to pay attention to the wellness of your employees and understand how to foster an environment that helps your employees lead balanced, yet hard-working lives.
Large companies might have free cafeterias filled with an array of food, catering to specific diets. For small to medium-sized businesses it's practically impossible to mirror these kinds of perks. However, you have something greater to offer and that is empathy. You're able to have a different relationship with the company and offer highly effective and meaningful ways to make sure your employees know their value.
There are 5 elements of well-being, and a good CEO will be aware of this when fostering the culture at the office:
As an employer, there are also little things that you can schedule throughout the month that make a big impact. Work is where people spend the majority of their time, so it’s important that your employees feel ‘a part of’. Plan regular team building outings (we love bubble soccer!), create health rewards, exercise together (Accelo has a Monday run club), and make healthy snacks that aren’t processed available in the office, apples and raw almonds provide energy and are easy to store.
The elements feed into one another, and taking the temperature of staff fulfillment will save you a lot of headaches down the line. Plus, people want to work for a company that cares. If your staff is consistently working late to meet deadlines and people are at the office all hours of the day, are you stepping in and reminding them to take a breath? To go home and get some rest? Give them the break they need: ask if they have time for exercise, do they have time to cook?
